The free markets can indeed take care of the problem. Only trouble is that it means too much pain for a significant portion of Americans. To many, that's a "disaster" that's worth preventing.

There is a certain arrogance to the statement up above.......like you won't be subject to the same conditions as that "significant portion of Americans". But you see it wasn't just poor and unskilled people who ended up without a job and homeless during the Depression but professionals as well. I wasn't kidding when I said you could end up moving back in with the rents.

So let's prevent that disaster, and not some phantom disaster that's being passed off as a certainty if we do nothing. Do the right things the right way. Just because we can do something doesn't mean that we should. (Remember that line?)

The disaster is unfolding now. To what degree is dependent on how we respond to it.
