Jefferson was eventually stripped of his committee membership, but it took the Democrats ten months to do it. He was defeated in the last election. Rangel has not yet become a political liability. He has a safe seat and he has not yet become the national poster child for Democratic corruption. Hopefully, that will change. Once he becomes a liability, the Democrats will bring him down. To be fair, the Republicans defend their own bad apples with the same vigor.
