I expected to see a new low on my LDL, a number closer to 60 than the 109

My (limited) understanding of LDL is this:

The "number" reading corresponds to volume of LDL. LDL can be composed of small particles. You need a lot of them (large particle count) to get volume reading of 109.

But if you particles are large, you need a small number of them (small particle count) to make up the volume of 109.

Not knowing the particle size, the number, by itself, doesn't tell you anything.
