economy destroying numbers either way If these derivatives are going to sink the entire economy, why shouldn't the government step in and supervise their resolution? The bankruptcy model could be used. In cases where they are genuine insurance, apply insurance leverage rules. If they are side bets, bettors get their principle back with some interest.

the key point to get, which very few seem to, is that it is NOT the housing bubble per se which is behind this mess primrlily
