As you said, unreliable is the key. Torture does produce intell. The problem is, nearly any organization with any organization uses a "need to know" policy for just that reason. Most captured soldiers or terrorists only know a small part of the story. Whenever any important operative is captured, you immediately change your methods and personnel in areas where that operative had knowledge.

But, just like in "The Tudors," where they forced two gay guys to confess to sleeping with the Queen, you can get somebody to tell you anything you want to hear under torture. Unfortunately, what you want to hear is unlikely to be true.

I always had a problem convincing my bosses in The Army that my current pay grade was something I needed to know. <G>
