It is supposed to install on my machine from everything I've read and I'm 99.9% sure Apple supports it on my machine.

Your problem may be the processor speed of your Quicksilver. If you have only the minimum chip the installer disk may be hanging.

Still you should be able to get Apple to sell you a replacement DVD for $20 tops and a Genius should at least let you try to do the install at the bar with a fully Licensed copy unless policy has changed since I left Apple.

On the plus side if they refuse at least you know they are protecting their products and the company from going belly up for giving away to much free stuff.

Retail Box Version - Yes purple background. ...

Shouldn't make any difference whether you're the original purchaser or not. It's a simple faulty disk swap thing. No receipt/no warranty. Translation: not free replacement, but a nominal fee is possible. These things happen all the time.

OTOH, you might try to make a backup of the disc and see if that goes well. You can copy it to a disk image if you've got room somewhere. If it copies without a hiccup, the problem may not be the disc.
