Well said, Benwood, but

"But partly we are there -- savings rate is up, buying 'stuff' is down."

is this really the way to go?

amen to your post and to this specifically <<And, what do you know... all those entities that have crushed the millions of bugs below them have worked diligently for the past decade to create the appearance of 'fringe' with respect to investing in one such alternative: gold. Not just naked shorting by banks etc., but millions of ounces for sale year after year by central banks grooming half the planet that fiat was the only game in town. And now we have seen the endgame of their plan, and it's beyond ugly.>>

An aside on the matter of POG at this very moment.
A longterm BULL regards Gold said something POG stalling at 1000, that i hadn't crossed my mind; that being those that want to buy physical GOLD right now, such as Hedge Funds, have taken such a drop in their overall assets the past year there isn't enough money slushing around to push POG upward and onwards above 1000.
This is seen as temporary as other assets will getting dumped over time to go for GOLD.
Marc Faber, in his newsletter, once in awhile, not commonly, puts forth in hard words, why he has been systematically accumulating physical gold.
Marc's(Marcus, btw) long view is quite dark, he sees an eventual collapse in all assets value except certain commodities and above all gold and silver.(he prefers physical gold to silver because it is far easier to store than silver.)

Now i like to state i have no physical gold in order to establish i feel it raises the level of my objectivity.
Why i don't own physical gold is complex, but one is i never ever i thought i would live to see 67, i counted the nine lives of a cat rule and i note i am on my 12th(LOL!)Max
