It provides Obama cover to level all the criticism on Geithner. The clock might be ticking on Geithner if things don't turn around relatively quickly. And that in itself might be too damaging for Obama to contemplate. Life's a biatch. His AG calling Americans cowards. The press secretary doing an all-out attack on a Chicago trader for voicing dissent. Imagine if Bush got anywhere near any of this.
