Follow Michael Pollan's 9-word edict:
Eat food.
Not too much.
Mostly plants.

Are you missing two words or are there only 7? gg

Poet, you're right about the wood pulp. I recall when the first "light" breads were introduced in the grocery stores about 20-years ago the labels clearly stated wood pulp or wood fiber in the ingredients. I've could not believe people would pay money to buy and eat ground up trees to save 20-calories in a slice of bread.

I agree in principle with the idea of buying locally grown food with a minimal amount of inorganic fertilizer on an environmental and cost basis, but I do not find it practical for my family.

I know for example the California strawberries I buy at the grocery store are bloated with no more nutrition than their much smaller organic cousins. I also know they do not taste as good. However, they are cheap and easily obtained, and by giving my kids fresh fruit a couple of times a day it gets them in a healthy habit I hope they will carry through to adulthood.

As for the food freaks in CA, I'm reminded of the movie, "Knotting Hill". One character in the movie is a "fruitarian" who only eats fruit or vegetables that have dropped from the vine and are in fact already dead.

In one scene she says the carrots they're eating have been murdered, but she doesn't explain how root vegetables can drop from the vine. She'd probably need a high order Fruitarian to issue a Fatwa in order to clarify that.

In edit, I like the 9-word edict. I'd add "and chocolate" to that, however, and make it 11-words.
