Regarding:

14: Acorn not being investigated? Are you KIDDING? How about Madoff not in jail, and the Republican Wall Street crooks that gave us this mess not being investigated! That is so much worse in my opinion. I've got my ideas about why they're not moving to put the REPUBLICAN CROOKS in jail(THERE ARE SO MANY, WHERE TO START?), but I'll keep that to myself

13: Non racial cartoon? Rupert Murdock, not know for his liberal bent, APOLOGIZED. Hello people? If it wasn't racial in intent, it was racial in effect, as evidenced by the large numbers of people that took it that way.

12: We've been in a recession long before the politicos were saying STUPID THINGS like, "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" and "we are not in a recession." The REAL unemployment rate is much higher than the govt' figures state when you take into account the unemployed that have quit looking for work and the part time people that have been laid off or can't find work (and it's going higher). Do you want to wait for 25% unemployment to act. MORE COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATISM, EH?

11. Regarding broken campaign promises. That statement is a joke right? Do nothing, GWB, DID NOTHING GOOD FOR THIS COUNTRY EXCEPT TAKE US DOWN THE TOILET (okay, he was good for aids in Africa). Obama has been in office a month.

10. I give the writer, Mr. Hawkins, credit for at least laying blame at the republicans that WERE NOT fiscally responsible.

9. BOO HOO BOO HOO Mr. Hawkins. Some people think President Obama is INTELLIGENT (which is pretty refreshing after the lack of intellectual curiosity shown by Bush/Cheney, et al). Mr. Hawkins sounds like so much sour grapes when he suggests that Obama is only good at reading the teleprompter. Stick to actual policy differences Mr. Hawkins and you might at least get me to consider some other policy choices other than the ones Obama is offering.

8. Arlen Specter knows this may cost him. As he said himself about the fact that he may lose his seat and I'm paraphrasing him, "I love my country and I am doing what I think is best for America." Agree or disagree about the stimulus bill, but I for one would not call what Specter did by signing the stimulus bill a betrayal. Same for any other republicans that signed. Out of work regular Joe might just be ticked off at the NO republicans. People do vote their pocketbook. What a weenie Hawkins is. Wall street bankers betrayed America, not the Republicans that signed the stimulus bill.

7. Regarding the largest tax increase in history. Do you really think that the PEOPLE THAT BROUGHT US TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN DERIVATIVES THAT HAVE BLOWN UP AND ALMOST BROUGHT DOWN THE WORLD FINANCIAL SYSTEM (I contend that those wall street people are mostly Republican), can somehow take us out of this mess by lowering taxes for the very same people that created this problem? Has it occurred to you all that you are all a DECADE TOO LATE regarding all of this new found fiscal responsibility that you all supposedly value so much? Bill Clinton gave you that, and YOU SQUANDERED IT. AND QUIT BLAMING THE MINORITIES THAT BOUGHT A HOUSE FOR CRIPES SAKE! HINT: THINK DERIVATIVES, TRANSFER OF WEALTH, WALL STREET, CROOKS, CORPORATIONS THAT MOVED US JOBS OVERSEAS. Did you know that Bank of America has their loan servicing dept overseas so if you are an American that needs help with your mortgage that is in default you get, Press one, press two, No habla english, yada yada yada. Also, if you are a small business owner and make more than $250k per year, perhaps you should incorporate. I'm not buying the idea more taxes for the well to do will kill jobs. There has been a huge wealth transfer from the middle class and many of the well to do have a new religion now. They realize their goose is cooked without a middle class. The middle class is bearing all they can. And please don't respond about how hard it is to cut it on just $250k per year. Spare me.

6. Yes there have been problems with the Unions. But, how about Universal healthcare for all Americans? Don't you remember how you pilloried Hillary? HILLARY HAD IT RIGHT. The republicans screwed Americans over on that one! They were all so proud of themselves back then. Well hindsight is 20/20 and our lack of foresight has only added to the difficulties we now face. Health care is a big problem for the unions and corporations. Unions have their place and I wouldn't want to go back to a pre union state in the US. Pick up a book or two. Shirt factory anyone? How about the goons they used to send in to beat people? Hello. The pendulum swings. Better to put it in balance than throw the baby out with the bathwater, imo. Fix what's wrong, but don't abolish unions. By the way, How many times the average workers salary do the ceo's make today, compared to 20 or thirty years ago? Yes, those benefits to workers are so extravagant. Hypocrisy abounds on this issue. Been to dinner at a laborers house lately? Wonder what he's putting on the table vs. the execs and ceo's.

5. Or maybe he is trying to put in the stop gap measures that will hold off a downward spiral of unemployment and homelessness by extending benefits as well as saving jobs, laying a large social net, because the numbers show that the speed by which we are losing jobs and rate at which consumer spending has declined puts us for certain in a depression in short order (if we're not already there, which I think we are). People said the same thing about FDR, but capitalism lived on.

4. Wrongo. Did the gov't force the banking industry to send my teenagers pre-approved credit cards when they didn't have jobs? Did the gov't force the banks to give everyone with a pick up truck and a hammer construction loans to build homes? Did the gov't force banks to loan to well to do country clubbers (republicans to boot) flippers as we call them, zero down loans to flip homes they never intended on making a payment on? Did the gov't force banks to make liar loans, ninja loans? (Ninja- No income, No job). No they did not FORCE. The govt. turned a blind eye to abuses EVERYWHERE, CONSEQUENCES BE DAMNED BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS GETTING RICH OFF THE SUCKERS THAT BOUGHT INTO THE GAME OF "EVERYONE GET A PIECE OF THE AMERICAN DREAM. HOUSE PRICE APPRECIATION IS OUR GOD!" BECAUSE THESE WALL STREET CROOKS TOOK THESE MORTGAGE LOANS AND LEVERAGED THEM UP BEYOND BELIEF, SLICED AND DICED THEM AND PAWNED THEM OFF AROUND THE WORLD. And furthermore they could have cared less how many Americans they brought down with their scheme because they thought they were protected and hedged with all sorts of wacky financial instruments AND THEY WERE WRONG!!!!!! Please stop, Mr. Hawkins, I am going to throw up. The Obama team realizes that people are underwater, that is why they want to pull peoples ratios back in line. There are people like me that need a new car (my car is 2002), but are holding off on big purchases because of insecurity (what if laid off) or have been hit with health care costs (insurance companies don't want to pay claims these days, noticed that?) or they have kids in college and are stretched right now, or they have bought enough right now and are paying down credit cards, but they are still good credit risks, With Americans pulling in the horns, how much longer will this downward spiral continue? Also, how many Americans feel they must start saving since their 401K's have cratered so badly. This guy Hawkins tries to make it all too simple, plus, I'm sure there's a minority to blame in here somewhere. "We just had to give those ignert po' folks loans." The racism is implied by Hawkins, imo and I've heard it before, lots. Yes it was a bad policy to require loans to people that could not afford them, but MAKE NO MISTAKE THAT THAT WAS A DROP IN THE BUCKET OF THIS HOUSING BUBBLE AND ONLY ONE SMALL PART OF THE PROBLEM. THAT IN AND OF ITSELF WOULD NOT OR COULD NOT HAVE BROUGHT US HERE TODAY! Wall Street has cannibalized itself and nearly us in the process.

3. Or maybe Obama really feels this is a HUGE CRISIS AND IS TRYING TO ACT TO STEM THE DOMINO COLLAPSE THAT WOULD SURELY FOLLOW IF WE DID NOTHING. Hank Paulson and Ben B. AND GWB gave us the first bailout. Where did the 750 BILLION GO?? Down the black hole of financial derivatives. Oh the oh so clever UNREGULATED WALL STREET FINANCIAL GENIUSES THAT GAVE US TOO BIG TO FAIL AND NO MORAL HAZARD!!! IT BOGGLES THE MIND. Thank you GWB, Thank you Cheney, Thank you Greenspan, Thank you Paulson. Thank you Bernanke. Thank you SEC. Too many thank yous to go around. Thank you Enron, Thank you World Com, Thank you Bank of A., Citi, Merrill, Morgan Stanley, Bear Sterns, Thank you AIG, Countrywide, Washington Mutual, Thank you Lehman, Goldman Sacks, SO MANY HONEST FOLKS OUT THERE TO THANK! THANK YOU Fannie, Thank you Freddie. Oh yea. Thank you Bernie Madoff. Nobody knew about him for the last eight years! Certainly not the SEC.

2. We're going to spend hundreds of billions of dollars, no trillions of dollars, staving off financial collapse because if we don't stem the tide of foreclosures and find a floor here, there's lots more coming. If it works, we will have succeeded in artificially holding up the cost of real estate. The housing bubble was manufactured on purpose by wall street because they were greedy. It was foisted on the American people, and because of it, the Americans that bought a house in the last 4 years will be debt slaves for years and years to come and so will the rest of us, because there will have to be taxes to pay for it all somehow. Thank you Bush. Thank you Cheney. Thank you "fiscal conservative Republicans of the last 8 years." Yes this sucks. CAN YOU SAY LARGEST WEALTH TRANSFER IN HISTORY. IT'S ALREADY HAPPENED FOLKS. NOBODY LIKES IT. There is no easy way out. A different way out is total economic collapse and I don't think we're ready for that. Talk about the law of unintended consequences.

1. Mr. Hawkins, Mr. Hawkins. Surely you're not that gullible. Ben B, said last year, the fundamentals of our economy are strong and that we were not headed for a recession (we were already in one). Do you believe we could possibly be out of this in even 2 years. NO MATTER WHAT POLICY THE LEADERS EMBRACE, WE ARE IN THIS FOR SOME TIME TO COME AND AMERICA IS AT A RISKY TIME IN HER HISTORY. Does Obama have all the answers. I REALLY DON'T KNOW. Personally, I have embraced a lot of Ron Paul's ideas, however, I think we're ten years too late. Did anyone notice how the Republicans treated him like a looney during the primaries? Obama is who we've got now, and I am not willing to embrace the same old crap the ditto heads have been spewing the last 10 years. Its divisive, stale, and in regards to fiscal conservatism, more than a day late and a dollar short. I like Ron Paul because he's principled and has an intellectual point of view that makes you think. But Mr. Hawkins? PUH-LEAZE?

Okay. Let's have it. Go ahead and call me every name in the book. I'm ready.
