The A's are in a tough spot. Even in years that they are better, they can't compete with the Giants' park for attendance.

Lew Wolff saw the deal as a leveraged commercial and residential real estate deal with the stadium and MLB as core. Wrigleyville West.

He was also hoping for a sweet deal from the taxpayers.

Aside from the NIMBYs in Fremont, the economy isn't exactly ripe for leveraged real estate deals, or taxpayer transfusions to baseball tycoons.

I'll be at the old Oakland Coliseum ballyard for another season, the A's look like genuine contenders in the AL West if they can have a healthier year than the last three.

Already got my first 2009 baseball fix seeing the Cal Bears beat Riverside on Friday.
