SGI and AAPL never had penetration into a viable open computing paradigm. Newton was a great concept, but was way before it's time, and too buggy to catch on. The market is far more receptive to such devices now that the internet is maturing.
Gilder is a visionary, and attempts to divine the larger trends. He admires Bill & Co., but identifies a sea change which MSFT will have to contend with, much as they did with the internet when it appeared that they couldn't talk that market into oblivion.
I made money on MSFTin the past (50%), and on SUNW, but my current investment is with the visionary guys who just may reign in the giant!
