I'm waiting for a response from him about some of that. My guess is that he's not allowing for the success of socialism as much as making a "Black Swan" or Outliers type point. He likes reading Gladwell and books about perceptions of reality, and surprising outcomes. I think he's trying to be conservative, but fair to Obama, and not do what was done to Bush.

He responded between his substitute teaching job and heading to R&D restaurant to wait tables. :
Of corse there is a possibility for the success of socialism. There are many points in history where society was advancing so quickly that no matter the government, people succeeded.

The dark ages was horrible government, but when society advanced, feudalism seemed successful, and held on through most of the industrial revolution.

And socialism isn't the worst government. But the argument is always what is the best government, and that is not settled by one very small time period in one country.

The black swan argument works well here, but the argument that I'm making is that there are too many factors to make a huge generalizing statement about general government, from the first trial one politician has to combat one situation.

It doesn't tell us much about conservative or liberal doctrine if Obamas ideas succeed or fail in this one situation. It just gives us one more piece of evidence to look at the whole picture. (Then he asked for my thoughts.....that's a good boy, right there).

From Wike re the US Constitution…. We are guaranteed Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Not guaranteed free health care, not guaranteed free housing, not guaranteed free food, nor clothing, nor anything else. We have the freedom to do it for ourselves.

You mean the Constitution doesn't provide for free HDTV convertor boxes? The injustice!
