I buy ground flaxseed and immediately take it to my freezer. The health food store where I buy it keeps it refrigerated. I used to grind my own but it became a big PIA and made a mess. This way is easier. I mix a heaping tsp in with my yogurt each morning. Often put it in gravy or soup.

Edit... I also take a couple fish oil capsules each day.
