I totally agree with you...Congress is going overboard...Northern Trust was "forced" by Paulson to take TARP funds in 2008 -- so it would look like ALL the top 20 banks took government funds...and Northern Trust is profitable and not depending on a large government infusion of capital (like AIG, Citi and possibly BAC) to be solvent today. Northern Trust is a conservatively run financial organization and has NEVER been involved with the toxic subprime mortgages.

Northern Trust is one of the most successful wealth managers and they should be allowed to conduct marketing efforts just the way they want to.

If Citi was holding fancy golf tournaments and flying in high priced entertainment for clients then Barney Frank might have justification for being upset.
