It is a lot of land area but in the near future with a new PV panel technology on the horizon we would use about 1/3 that area to generate the same amount of total energy.

Unfortunately Yucca was doomed from the beginning. Shortly after digging they discovered a major earthquake fault and then water flowing through the mountain. On the face of it why did they choose a mountain? Nuts, simply nuts!

It has to be located in a geologically quiet area with no water that has been stable for millions of years. What a political hot potatoe!
