Re -- Intel clarifies plant delay explanation

If the Israel plant was supposed to make flash, and its converted to logic, then the flash fab capacity is not needed. This could either mean 1 of 2 things. Either there is less demand overall or Intel's share of the flash memory market may be declining (not increasing according to forecast)

I suspect the latter is true given, that ''The unit demand for flash remains high.''

However the increased demand for microprocessors bodes well for microprocessors and margins.

John Hull, Paul, and all,

Perhaps i am misreading something and you guys can help me out, but
i am sincerely disappointed, for the first time, at Intels
inconsistent statements. Read the two announcements:

#1: biz.yahoo.com

#2: excerpt below
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Intel Corp said that
it is delaying the opening of its $1.3 billion plant in Fort
Worth, Texas due to a product switch at another plant in
Israel, not due to weakening demand for flash memory
chips. ............

''The unit demand for flash remains high.'' .........

That first one said that flash memory demand was the problem.
the second message is pretty lame. One of them is a freaking lie.

I love this company, probably too much, but if i need someone
spouting crap in order to support their own purposes, i can
watch it on cspan. i think intel ought to hold a press conf
to explain in plain english what the hell they are talking about
with respect to these statements.

Before anyone jumps on me, i am NOT questioning the decision to
open, close, or move fab work, but given that the flash memory
was such a problem at earnings time, what the hell is that second
statement. Something is stinking. BRE-X and others release this
kind of crap to prop their own stock price. Intel doesn't need
this kind of nonsense.

I am one pissed shareholder right now -- whatever the effect or
non-effect on the stock, the sector, or the market. And i know I
am probably off the deep end, and i hope someone here can put me
straight (gently if possible, i don't need more stress).

Regards all,

J

ps - sorry for the attitude, this just strikes me wrong.

Narotham, re: "The plant in Israel ... will now make logic and micrprocessor chips. "

This confirms my original reading of this news. Processor fab capacity is being accelerated. Flash is out a new fab and will make due with increased yields at existing fabs. No mention of "dual use"; not surprising as the microprocessor fab people are flash fab people are organized as somewhat separate organizations.

Let's see, this little news blunder knocked two bucks off Intel, ten percent off AMAT, and I don't know how much off the sector! Sure would like to have my part of it back!
