Most people can't "afford" to be liberals. Most Democrats aren't "liberals" by Rush Limbaugh standards. They're just folks trying to make a living and would prefer that they got an even break against the corporate world. They're just trying to avoid a world that was like the one written about by Upton Sinclair. Peter, you can't paint EVERYBODY with a "black and white" brush. About 60% of people are in the MIDDLE. They may be considered conservative on some things but liberal on others. They may think that gays should be able to get married if they want to while also thinking that you shouldn't tax and regulate businesses to death. There's probably 15% on either end of the spectrum that agrees TOTALLY on everything and they usually make 90% of the NOISE.
