No question there is bipartisan responsibility for deregulation and not sicking the SEC on offenders in earnest. But the idea on this or any other topic, that Republicans were powerless to shape anything related to public policy from 2001-2006 is just nonsense, a craven cop-out to duck what really happened. Fortunately the voters started puking up that POV in 2006, and really got in gear in 2008. Now all the Reps have is Jindal spouting cliches and guys in the base keeping up the usual lib-bashing. Old, tired stuff.
