. Rush said that obama's words discourage people from trying, it makes people feel like down trodden victims... Rush is correct, clearly the author had a negative attitude before he even began watching Rush's talk... this much is obvious...

I listened to Rush and came away with a completely different view. Unlike Reagan (still the gold standard for conveying ideas) he was bombastic and quite negative in his own right. I felt it was "all about Rush", as he proclaims himself to be both the conscience and voice of the conservative movement. Many disagree with this humble assessment, including Romney and Gingrich. I don't think people who listened to Obama last week felt downtrodden. (but listening to Jindal's rebuttal probably made them think nobody on the right can speak to them like adults.

I think the right-wing talkers are a problem for serious republican politicians. And many commentators (most recently the American Conservative in a cover article agrees. The right won't win over more voters by highlighting its bombastic side....Rush and Hannity and Savage don't win converts; they just give the already initiated plenty of red meat.

In an earlier post you asked another poster to explain how we were going to pay for all of Obama's spending plans. (An excellent question). But many on this thread and the old GWB thread used to ask that question all the time about the former administrations's spending (both on budget and off-budget). We were told that the 400 billion dollar on - budget deficit and the 300 billion off-budget deficit were steps necessary for our Country's growth and security. How it was to be paid for seemed far from many republican's minds. (Another point being made by many at CPAC - Bush was no conservative, nor is Boehner or McConnel).

Obama was overreached, I suspect. Too much spending, too much pork, poor focus on goals and initiatives. But the republicans have to find a reasoned, logical, voice....one that can discuss policy and ideas in a calm, reasoned voice. Only that will win over the 10% of independents that will decide the 2012 election. Many conservatives understand this and want Rush and his ilk to go back behind the microphone, just be "entertainers" and don't think they can win over blacks, indians, latinos by railing at them on Monday (with terms like Halfrican) and then expect them to rally to ideas on Tuesday.
