Knighty,

top 4% is awesome, speaking from someone who finishes in the bottom 96%. ;-)

you just need to win that next free tourney...

do you have any closed end funds or other plays to jump on the longer term theme of an eventual commodities recovery?

Take a look at Glenn Beck's housing chart...

Knighty,

i've gotten my 5k time down to 23:42. i'm hoping to get under 23:00 for the Carlsbad 5000 5k race in April. i have no running talent, so chalk this up to the zone diet's cardio benefits, too. i've gone from not running over 50m in 22 years to not running over 3 miles in 24 years to running my first 5k in january (and first time over 3 miles in 24 years) at 29:50 to 23:42 just over mid february.

i've changed my lifting routine to german volume training (gvt) to try and gain some lean muscle mass. i'm hopeful it will work. if you aren't familiar with it, it is 10 sets of 10 with some supplementary work. a maximum of 60 seconds rest is allowed per set (90 seconds if you are doing a superset).

the sets aren't that bad, but the controlled 4 second negative and 2 second positive (for beginners) is an absolute killer in the latter reps of the latter sets.

it exposed my muscle endurance as being pretty darn weak - but that's to be expected given i haven't worked muscle endurance in almost a quarter century.

my first impressions are good - the scale and the mirror are telling me i've added about a pound or two of muscle that seems to be sticking.

we'll see, though. i'm a hard gainer.

the downside is that the constant strain across my elbow has made my damaged nerve more sensitive. i may end up modifying the lifts or mixing it in with more traditional weight lifting to prevent excessive stress on my nerve.
