My wife and I are taking Salmon Fish Oil from Whole Foods as a workshop leader told her that was the best form.

"From the deep blue fjords of Norway," eh? Lots of spin about fish oil. Worst in the health food industry, IMO. What you are after is the most EPA/DHA omegas for your money. The type and quality of the fish oil used is not material. None of them contain mercury, etc.

The "total Omegas" figure a lot of brands are showing is a head fake. You don't care what kind of fish it is from, the oil is simply a carrier and food for your body. Take Astavita, Virgin Salmon Oil, 1100 mg, 90 Capsules being sold here by iherb for $12.60 a bottle of 90 caps. Buy $80 worth and delivery is free. They are a good place to do business if you buy enough to qualify for free delivery. I don't know what Whole Foods is charging, but it's probably about the same or more.

They play the shell game that they all do of showing the content by "serving size," which is two capsules. This means you have to divide the EPA/DHA numbers in half to figure out the amount per capsule. They show "total omega" of 570, with a EPA of 230 and a DHA of 250. In reality, you are getting only 220 EPA/DHA per capsule.

You would have to take 27 capsules a day to get 6000 mgs of the Omega 3's you need. Each capsule costs .14 times 27 per day equals $3.78 a day. You would go though a bottle every three days to get 6000 a day. So you are paying $114.30 a month for EPA/DHA.

Costco's Kirkland brand of fish oil delivers about 290 a day. At a cost of 3.8 cents per capsule. 22 capsules cost you .84 cents a day. 400 soft gels to a bottle, it would last you about 18 days. $25.30 per month.

That's an approximate "high/low." Take your pick in between.
