Consciously or not, Obama played that issue just right during the campaign. He provided enough proof that the sane people were satisfied, but refused to bend over backwards for the nut brigade. So they revealed themselves as to exactly how unhinged they are. I think they learned from that, hence the present campaign of putting Rush as the head of the Republican party. Rush doesn't play well to anybody but his core of nutjobs, and he especially repels those who label themselves as independents. So by tying the Republican party to Rush, and having them welcome him with open arms, erodes their base even more.

So, unless Obama fails spectacularly, the Republicans will implode.
