Having said this though, the article was all about blame and my thinking is if conservatives want to go down the blame path - they will pay a price IMO.

I have to disagree. One essential step to putting all this behind us is to identify the facilitators and especially the processes that got us here. One of the worse things would be to gloss over everything because it might be too painful to look, only to have the entire scenario repeat in 20 years.

When you have people like Barney Franks that directly facilitated this mess, STILL spouting idiocy about the need to make MORE bad loans to people who don't qualify.... Well, don't you see something wrong with this picture?

more effective government could sure help huh?

When estimates indicate that one out of ever three dollars spent on Medicare and Medicaide is wasted I am not sure where to look for more efficient governance.

As to bigger government - we're getting it and would get it if republicans were in charge.

Bush Republicans, yes, conservatives no. President Bush worked hard to get Specter past the conservative (Toomey) in the Pennsylvania primary. Spector was one of the three RINOs that voted for Porkulus.

Stevens and Young, the Alaska spendthrifts, are gone. They are responsible for much of the Republican pork problem. Nobody knows if they had been out of power if pork would have gotten out of control, but it hardly cold have been much worse.

Compared to Obama / Pelosi spending they were the models of frugality.
