[service levels - OneNet ADSL service]

For $800 a business will probably get a connection where the backbone network capacity will allow high speed around the clock operation.
Many phone companies plan to offer $30 to $50 residential ADSL transport service. For this price they can't provide a backbone that allows all customers full speed operation. And currently this is not even requiered to get a good performance. In the HD network the University Heidelberg and several Max Plank and other scientific institutes share a 34 Mbit connection to the internet. This connection is less than 5 times as fast as a 8 Mbit ADSL connection but it provides fast internet connectivity to probably several 1000 computers.
I did take a look at the OneNet Web server. They offer the typical $20 for dial up access. But if you want a dedicated 128 Kbit ISDN line as a business customer you pay $250/month.

I provided a link to a ADSL discussion a few posts ago techstocks.com where the phone company managers clearly state that they plan to offer differing price levels for differing levels of service quality. And I think the biggest difference will be the capacity of the backbone network connection. But I think that we will soon get a fast connection for less than $800.

BTW I mixed up names in one quote.
The quote - clearly tremendous demand - more than we originally anticipated was Greg Gum from USWest and not from GTE
