Horng, I think there is one other positive to the HK crisis. There has been a tremendous infusion of funds into the US bond market pushing yields down. Long-term bond yields exert a much greater effect on the stock market than changes in the discount rate by the Fed. This can have three effects: it can cushion any stock market corrections; it can set the stage for higher stock valuations; it can lower the cost of capital and thus support business purchasing and expansion.
