Imo the solution to people shooting themselves is "don't shoot yourself."

I agree. Many years ago I actually saw a person pick up a loaded revolver and look down the barrel while their finger was near the trigger. Some people are definitely more dangerous (to everyone) by owning a weapon. I used to be a heavy drinker. Never owned a pistol during that time for fear I would get drunk and do something more stupid than normal.

Like all responsible gun owners I tear down/clean/reassemble all my weapons. I also know the laws and safety procedures. They are not mysterious "firesticks" to me. Will hopefully never have to use one in self defense but am prepared if the need arises.

My wife is also fully trained but am not sure if she could pull the trigger if required.
