Criminals or gov't will want to know the easy marks. . . those who can't fight back.

to quote gerald celente (tin foil for some, i'm sure)

'when the people have nothing to lose, they lose it'

when paulson held that first emergency meeting back in september when the money markets were imploding and AIG counterparties were on the verge, he told the people there, that would be the president, speaker pelosi, reid, ranking committee members, 'if we don't act on this NOW we will have MARSHALL LAW'

he was talking about people unable to get paychecks cashed as the interbanked lending had seized up....

now maybe he was exagerating, but i'm not going to take that bet on the wrong side....i'd rather be 'wrong' and have spent an additional $700 or so for a compact weapon should it be SHTF time and never need it....worst case scenario in that event is i bot a new toy i can play with at the shooting range

Hi Diana,

I don't agree with you that government's intentions are quite that nefarious, but certainly criminals look for easy marks.

I think we've learned that there are all kinds of criminals (and a hell of a lot of them) out there; all sorts of ways for honest citizens to fall prey to predators. It comes down to a choice as to how you want to protect yourself. I've thought long and hard about buying a gun. And I decided against it. I'm not stupid though-- have a pit bull with a nasty bark and have moved all my jewelry to my safe deposit box. And I live next door to a retired cop.

I can understand others making a different decision based on where they live. There's a risk one takes by having a gun at home, and being aware of that risk is important.

I do think the likelihood of civil unrest is frighteningly high. I never thought I'd see it like this.
