Pretty much. AIG sold a lot of CDS's on other people's assets. Why they thought that was a good idea is beyond me.

"And the banks and many, many other institutions are holding the CDS paper.

AIG is sort of a financial nuclear bomb. It could take out the entire landscape."

That is soft-peddling it.
