Its a massive hidden regressive tax on every American.

How can the bicoastal liberal Democratic elite resist this? Hopefully, the Republicans will stay united and enough Democrats from interior states that will be harmed will break from their leadership.

Yes, agreed. We're all sick of the Bush tactics of scaring people into voting for him and his policies. I hope Obama takes a higher road, but have already seen him use scare tactics on the recovery bill. I hope he corrects that going forward.
