The advantage to the homeowner is that it is a chance to get some of the equity out of your home. Maybe to pay off the mortgage so that you can live without paying rent or a mortgage or to buy an annuity and get some additional income. However when the property is sold you do need to pay back the amount of the loan and all accumulated interest.

Of course I don't think you can get a loan for 80% of the value of your home. Probably more like 50%. Maybe some out there would know these details better than I would.
