Wow. Duke University too?

It's stunning that private universities are blowing themselves up through investment debacles exactly at the same time the recession is making paying $40k+ per year in tuition/boarding fees look like fiscal suicide.

Community colleges are the next bubble. -g

Going forward: 1. the writer should hope Duke has any endowment left; 2. be prepared for an onslaught of phone calls and mailings saying how wonderful it is to give $ to Duke.

Cramer actually did a rant on this last night concerning Penn. He said that Penn is raising undergrad tuition to 50k per year partly because of their endowment losses. His point was that when all these schools were making money hand over fist thru their investments there was no 'cutting' of tuition levels...
