'Shovels hit the ground' on stimulus project, Obama says

cnn.com

Obama and LaHood on Tuesday announced the release of $27 billion in funds from the stimulus package "to help states create a 21st-century infrastructure."

The president said it is part of the "largest new investment in America's infrastructure since President Eisenhower built the Interstate Highway System."

Obama said another 200 construction projects would be launched over the next few weeks, "fueling growth in an industry that's been hard hit by our economic crisis."

Ah... someone realizes that we've been masturbating... err... stimulating the economy with $500 billion dollar deficits, home equity lines of credit and credit card debt for years - and look where that got us. Like with a hangover, there's not much that Obama can do but give the economy a few aspirins and comfort us while time does its work.

First, we can't rely on the Great Depression as analog to the current crisis, nor upon the New Deal as the template for its solution.
