I believe the tell-tail issue is cap and trade. You cannot deliberately vastly increase energy costs unless you want to lower our standard of living.

They have no fear that bad policy will destroy wealth and thereby the harvest as well.

Rand pushes this all the way though "Atlas Shrugged." The looters always figure, "oh, they will figure out a way to make more money no matter how much we take."
