The Republicans are thrashing around like a Chinese fire drill, an art form that the Dems usually excel in. Rush is in one ring doing his bombastic act; Steele is in ring number two trying to talk out of both sides of his mouth at once and hope someone is listening, since Rush is grabbing the limelight; and the Congressional leadership are working on their Dr. No pose at press conferences while a few of their more moderate colleagues are doing the give and take with the administration to get things done.

Quite a circus. All we need now is the dancing bear on a tricycle to sail through.....

I find it bizarre that the RW appears to be rejecting Michael Steele to defend an acrimonious and extremely ideological talk show host

You nailed it there.
When it comes to Rush character, intellect, even ideology is not the primary issue.

The fundamental problem is that he is a talk radio guy first (not a conservative first, republican second as advertised)
If there is a conflict between what's good for his ratings and what's good for the party I wonder what's he gonna choose?
