Good point, I am oversimplifying.

They might be grouped by experience in Hapsburg empire, German and then Soviet occupation, and date they joined the EU.

Roman Catholic or Orthdox Church creates another division.

You can't expect Americans to understand geography ;-)

My point is it makes a difference if most of Eastern Europe ends up like Poland instead of Transdinestria.
