That's one way to look at it and it must certainly seem that way to you. HOwever, I was howling about the debt during Bush's term. I've only seen other Republicans howl about it now that they are no longer in power. That's hypocrisy.

Anyway, here's the reality. When the economy is good and we're not in a downward spiral to a Great Depression, it is reasonable for everyone to expect that we should be paying off our debt. However, when we're in the midst of a massive downward economic spiral, most economists agree that Keynsian tools are necessary to short circuit the downward spiral, which means increasing the debt, which no fiscal conservative likes, but most reasonable people understand is necessary.

As far as I'm concerned, this spending is necessary. I will judge Obama not on what happens in the next year or two as he struggles to fix the economy. But I will judge him on what he does after the economy starts to rebound. Will he be able to reign spending back in? That's going to be the hard part. If he fails in that, then I will say he's just like other Dems and he sold me a bill of goods. But right now, he's doing all the right things.
