A British "loser pays" system would clear out a lot of civil suits, especially frivolous personal injury suits.

Slip and falls in McDonalds and Walmart would drop dramatically.

Ladder prices would probably drop by half.

Exactly. I know one practice is to first 'discover' how much money the other side has then keep discovering till he has out spent himself. That is happening here with small contractors getting stiffed by the big general. When the small guy foolishly sues, the general countersues, get a hold of the small guys financials, then piles on discovery until the small guy's atty can no longer be funded by the plaintiff. If the plaintiff miraculously gets close to court and a win, just BK the company.
