He simply can't get bogged down in Afghanistan. And he simply can't allow al-Qaeda and the Taliban free rein. And every option in between seems either a gamble or a fantasy. Some such as Bush and Tim have no sense of reality looking at Afghanistan. One better study history or they will be hopelessly in a cloud as they address what to do here. I have said it before and I will again; the big sin of the Iraq war was to lose a chance here in Afghanistan. Our attention was diverted. What a depressing read - but the story has been out there for some time for those willing to look. Very interesting seeing the Obama team wake up - thanks for posting John! steve
