But it has over 5 x the population. So China does 10 x as badly as Taiwan. Why would you put failures in charge of somewhere else? Normally, successful people are the ones you want to run something. If USA was bundled with China with China in charge, the combination would be even bigger. You make the very common mistake of thinking bigger is better. If bigger was better, China and India would be the world's pre-eminent countries. Bangladesh would be great. Pakistan wonderful. The USSR would have been super duper. Great Britain was just a few million people but it ran the biggest and best empire in human history with great benefit to hordes of people around the world. Eventually, the local yokels decided they could do a better job and took it upon themselves to run their countries into the ground, civil war and poverty. Great Britain gave up being great and settled for kleptocratically socialist bound up in unions and the British Disease and is now going belly up with Islamic Jihad on the rampage in the streets of London and Birmingham and financial carnage bankrupting all and sundry. How things are done is what matters. Numbers are good to have if things are done right, but if they are not, then numbers can make things worse because crowding leads to carnage as hunter gatherer ideology cannot function in Piccadilly Circus, Ginza or Bombay. Now that swarms of people believe "capitalism failed and Big Government is needed" = "Bring back the Soviet Union", it is quite likely that the equivalent of Mao's Maelstrom will besiege the planet. Capitalism has not failed, but the belief that it has will likely lead to catastrophe. Obama and Brown and co are off and running with Big and Bigger Government to supposedly save the day. Have you thought of bundling Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela together? That should add up to something. You could throw in Africa too. Mqurice
