"all it takes is a little mealymouthed democrat to stand up and say "filibuster" and it was all over....what don't you understand about that?" __________--- Since you asked...I don't understand why, if President Bush and the Republicans had right on their side and the Fannie/Freddie boondoggle was an obvious mess, why any threat of a filibuster would make a wit of difference? Are the republicans principled about good government? Why fold? you ask: "what don't you understand about that". My question to you is: Do you understnad how a filibuster works? There is none in the House, so why did they fold? As for the Senate, if the democrats threatened a filibuster, why didn't the republicans say: bring it on! They could have threatened in return to show all the bad practices and crud in the fannie/freddie world...do you honestly think that if they had the goods that that five democrats would not have joined the republicans and ended the filibuster? It's such an excuse to say that the completley out of power might have disagreed, so we good republicans couldn't have done anything.... I dont' see that same argument stopping the democrats now...
