"What's reprehensible is that he is one of the key players behind the subprime debacle. He's one of the guys that got us into this economic mess. So why would you trust anything he does or says?"

Gee. You got some evidence this particular guy was behind any fraud or other criminal (or merely reprehensible) actions, or do you just assume he was because he was in the business? And remember, bad business judgement is not criminal, so betting the ranch on subprime (or option ARMs or whatever else) doesn't make your case.

Also, the beauty of markets is that I don't need to trust him or rely on his good intentions to look at what he's doing now and see how his actions are beneficial to his borrowers and the mortgage market as a whole, and thus me, indirectly. He doesn't even need to HAVE good intentions. He just needs to play by the rules - that is, the applicable laws.

"Huh? Are you trying to be funny, or are you just slow on the uptake?"

No, it seems it's you who is slow on the uptake.
