ElM, fleeing is not really heroics. Cynicism is fun and I am happy to challenge you to a competition. But some people really do do things which are unusual and successful and noteworthy.

The pilot who landed the aircraft on the Hudson wasn't heroic. As my brother [a retired 747 captain] used to say, it was easy having the huge responsibility. You just have to get yourself there safely and everyone goes along for the ride.

The Hudson River pilot was busy saving his own bacon! Heroics would be if he went rushing from safety into danger to save the people.

Also, Brazil is a good place to be shot in the back, but the process was invented elsewhere and has been enthusiastically adopted all over the world from time to time. In fact Brazil wouldn't be in the top 10 countries for the process. It was made official in many countries with hordes having died that way in some instances. As with other things, Brazil is strong on aspiration but short on success. Too much of a lazy party attitude I guess.
