The public has a right to know.

It's their money. It's that simple.

I don't give a DAMN if 'the banks had an expectation of privacy when they entered these contracts' or not.

The PUBLIC had an 'expectation' too... that they would not have to pour Trillions into the banking system to rescue these bad actor's mistakes.
