Anecdotally, I still see the restaurants busy(actually, the less expensive restaurants, which are the ones we usually go to, have appeared busier than usual),. . . .

More anecdotes. I typed a few days back about a supermarket near us that simply closed, no notice, nothing, not even signs in the windows. We shopped at a Shop-Rite near us yesterday around 11 in the morning. Place was packed, parking lot was packed. The obvious explanation is that the first supermarket was slightly upscale, just across the street from the CNBC headquarters; and the second was more of a discount, "we've got a little of everything at a slight price cut" kind of place.
