Well, I'm no lawyer, but I live in a family full of Republican lawyers. So I'm no stranger to debates such as these. What's funny is that almost without exception my family of hard rightwing nuts think FISA is a backsliding on our freedoms. The only difference between them and me is that they still like the idea, but I don't. I think it was Benjamin Franklin who said that those who would give up their freedom for security deserve neither. He was right.
