I can understand a President making his own mark on the Oval Office. That's expected. But why not return the bust in a more diplomatic fashion, if bent on returning it at all.

After serious consideration, I've come to the conclusion that the bust was insulting to The One. I believe he actually hated the idea of having it anywhere near him, and ordered it removed before his eyes had a chance to glance at it. OTOH Bush may have ordered it returned before his term expired because it was a loan from Blair, and it was dutifully removed before he left?

Anything is plausible, but there are more important issues to worry about.

Besides, I'm beginning to not care.

I like that a lot! GG

WUWT= WHat's Up With That?<g>

Undoubtedly a phrase destined for frequent use over the next four years.<g>

I think the courteous and respectful act would have been to inform the British Embassy of the honor of displaying the Churchill bust in the Oval Office, and requesting that the present administration be allowed to display it for one more Presidential term. It would have been a handshake to the British, reaffirming the long standing special relationship. I'll bet they would have countered by making the bust a special permanent gift to the people of America. An opportunity not only squandered, but lost by narcissistic incompetence.
