As a self-employed full time trader I also pay my own way, and was on this thread a LONG time ago complaining about the lack of choice in buying health insurance and the fact that if I or my wife were ill we couldn't even get it. That put me on the side of change. As far as 'misleading' the American people, I'd say the beneficiaries of Bush policy, namely the financial industry, did that better than anyone. Bin Laden, if alive, must be very happy about how our own economic terrorists have done more damage than he did...

As far as homeowners, sure many behaved irresponsibly, but we are shoveling WAY more money at the banksters. Your buddy Phil 'this is a mental recession' Gramm got that ball rolling with Glass Steagal...

<<As a self-employed person, I pay $1200/month for health insurance for me and my wife. Both high-deductibles. That doesn't guarantee me I won't suffer some illness that leaves me broke. It helps, but there are no guarantees.>>

$14,400 per year for health care insurance with high-deductibles.

Average wage in US for 2007 is $40,000.00

Lets see, take off $ 8000.00 for income, state ,other taxes leave $32,000 .00

Take off $6000.00 for food leaves $26,000.00

Take off $ 2000.00 for house utillities leaves $24,000.00

Take off $2000.00 for house, car, life insurance leaves $22,000.00

Take off $6000.00 for car payments leaves $ 16,000.00

Take off $1600.00 for gas, maintainance for car leaves just enough
to cover $14,400 per year for health care insurance but not enough for deductables, dentist, clothes, hair cuts, holidays,TV, internet, cell, once a month eat out at Mickey D's or FUN and etc. and nothing left to pay the mortgage.

It is not surprising why the average US wage earner chooses not to have health care insurance.
