Interesting. I agree the Republicans of today are VERY VERY different than the ones I grew up with. I don't think I'm exactly a cloth coat Republican, though, because I have a social conscience. In addition, I've studied economics for too long to believe that fiscal conservatism is always the way to go. To paraphrase Summers, fiscal conservatism and lowering America's current account deficits is the right thing 90% of the time, except for a couple times a century like during the Great Depression and like right now. But then over the medium term, as the economy swings back to recovery mode, we need to balance this budget and our trade deficit.
