That's rather hopeful. Pragmatists are capable of realizing they've made mistakes and undoing them- so let's hope they really are pragmatists, because every admin makes mistakes- it's the ones we don't correct that so often become the noose around our necks.

Nonetheless, the White House made a case that was sophisticated and fact-based. These people know how to lead a discussion and set a tone of friendly cooperation. I’m more optimistic that if Senate moderates can get their act together and come up with their own proactive plan, they can help shape a budget that allays their anxieties while meeting the president’s goals.

That's not something we have heard in Washington in many, many years: sophisticated, fact-based debates offered up for reasonable moderates to find a compromise.
